The Quality of the Connection

Performance and reliability of an optical connection is crucial for the long term performance of the optical networks.

It depends on 6 Major Factors:

  • Connector Specification: Ferrule Hole Diameter & Eccentricity
  • Specification of Optical Fiber used.
  • Clean Fiber Endface & Ferrule Surface
  • Sophisticated Connector Polishing Process
  • Measurement of Endface Geometry
  • Low Insertion Loss and Back Reflection

Clean Fiber Endface & Ferrule Surface

Contaminated Connector Endfaces, Scracthes and Pits Cause Insertion Loss

Naficon has 3 stages of endface inspection during their manufacturing process (100%)

  • 400X Videoscopic Inspection after polishing.
  • Make sure that Fiber & Ferrule endface is 100% free of Scratches and Pits.
  • 400X Videoscopic Checking before Insertion Loss/ BR Testing.
  • Make sure that no damage is caused during connector mating.
  • 100X Videoscopic Final Inspection
  • All the ferrule surfaces and fiber surfaces are checked.

Following International Standards

Naficon follows the following International Standards for its manufacturing.

  • IEC 61300-3-35 : Examinations and measurements – Visual inspection of fibre optic connectors and fibre-stub transceivers
  • IEC 61300-3-47 : Examinations and measurements – End face geometry of PC/APC spherically polished ferrules using interferometry
  • IEC-61300-3-4 : Basic test and measurement procedures– Attenuation
  • IEC-61300-3-6 : Basic test and measurement procedures– Back Reflection
  • Naficon’s products are tested against the following reliability standards
  • IEC 61300-2-01 Vibration Test
  • IEC 61300-2-02 Mating Durability
  • IEC 61300-2-05 Torsion/ Twist Test
  • IEC 61300-2-44 Flexing of strain relief of fiber optic devices
  • IEC 61300-2-42 Static side load for connector
  • IEC 61300-2-50 Connector Proof Test
  • IEC 61300-2-51 Transmission with Applied Tensile Load Test
  • IEC 61300-2-18 Dry Heat (High Temperature Endurance)
  • IEC 61300-2-22 Temperature Change
  • IEC 61300-3-3 Monitoring Attenuation and Return Loss
